ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
India's most beloved curry — clean label & vegan
Tikka Masala is one of the most ordered dishes in Indian restaurants worldwide — a deeply satisfying curry defined by its rich, orange-red tomato base, warm spices, and a creamy, slightly tangy sauce. However, most versions, both restaurant and jar, rely on heavy cream, butter, or ghee to achieve that richness. Mekhala’s version leaves out the dairy so you decide what goes in.
This paste is built around a concentrated base of organic tomatoes — the foundation of tikka masala’s signature color and gentle acidity — layered with garlic, ginger, turmeric, cilantro, and red and green chilli for depth and heat. Lime juice and jasmine rice vinegar add the subtle tang that makes tikka masala pop. The result is a paste that delivers authentic tikka masala flavor without any dairy, cream, or animal products whatsoever.
Unlike ready-made tikka masala sauces that don’t allow you to control the intensity of flavor, Mekhala’s paste is stone-ground and concentrated. You add your own cooking liquid — coconut milk for a rich, creamy vegan curry, vegetable broth for a lighter version, or dairy cream if you prefer the classic. One jar makes 8–10 servings and gives you full control over the sauce’s richness, spice, and consistency.
The paste is USDA Certified Organic, vegan, gluten-free, and made in a facility free from animal products, gluten, and dairy. It comes in a reusable glass jar — not plastic — because Mekhala believes sustainable packaging is non-negotiable. Made by a female-led team in Chiang Mai, Thailand, using ingredients sourced from local farms using regenerative practices.
SIMPLE TO MAKE
Restaurant-quality Tikka Masala in 3 steps
1
Fry the Paste
Heat a pan or pot over medium-high heat. Add a splash of oil (or use the paste’s own sunflower oil by adding it directly). Add 1.5–2 tablespoons of Tikka Masala Paste and fry for 60 seconds, stirring constantly, until it darkens slightly and smells deeply fragrant.
2
Add Protein & Simmer
Add your protein — diced chicken, cubed tofu, chickpeas, paneer, or lentils — and stir to coat in the paste. Pour in 300–400ml of coconut milk or vegetable broth. Simmer over medium heat for 15–20 minutes, until your protein is cooked through and the sauce is thick and rich.
3
Serve & Garnish
Serve over basmati rice or with warm naan. Finish with fresh cilantro, a swirl of coconut cream, and a squeeze of lime. Optional: a pinch of garam masala stirred in at the end lifts the final flavor. Dinner on the table in under 30 minutes.
Paste vs. Sauce: This is a concentrated cooking paste — not a ready-to-eat sauce. It needs to be cooked with your protein and a liquid (coconut milk, broth, or water) to become a curry. One jar makes 8–10 servings at 1.5–2 tablespoons per serving. The paste is also excellent as a marinade — rub onto chicken, tofu, or paneer and refrigerate for 30 minutes before grilling or roasting.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Everything you want to know
Can’t find what you’re looking for? Contact us — we’d love to help.
Is Mekhala Tikka Masala Paste vegan?
Yes — Mekhala Tikka Masala Paste is 100% vegan. Traditional tikka masala typically relies on heavy cream and butter for its rich sauce, which makes it off-limits for vegans and dairy-free eaters. Mekhala’s paste contains no cream, no butter, and no animal products of any kind. The richness comes from organic tomatoes and warm aromatic spices instead. To make a classic tikka masala curry, simply add canned coconut milk or vegetable broth rather than dairy cream — you’ll get a beautifully rich, restaurant-quality result.
Does it contain dairy or cream?
No. The paste itself contains zero dairy, cream, butter, or ghee. It is manufactured in a facility free from animal products, gluten, and dairy. The classic tikka masala richness comes from a base of organic tomatoes, aromatic spices, and sunflower oil — no dairy required. When cooking, you add your own preferred liquid: coconut milk for a creamy vegan version, vegetable broth for a lighter dish, or dairy cream if you prefer the traditional restaurant-style preparation.
How spicy is Mekhala Tikka Masala Paste?
Mekhala Tikka Masala Paste has a medium spice level — warm and aromatic with a gentle chilli heat that builds pleasantly. It contains both red chilli and green chilli, giving it authentic tikka masala warmth, but the tomato base and aromatic spices balance the heat so it is enjoyable for most palates. If you prefer less heat, use slightly less paste and increase the coconut milk or broth in your dish. To dial up the heat, add a pinch of cayenne or fresh chilli while cooking.
How much paste should I use per serving?
For a curry serving 2–3 people, start with 1.5–2 tablespoons of paste plus 300–400ml of coconut milk or broth. Because this paste is concentrated — stone-ground with no added water or fillers — the flavor is powerful and a little goes a long way. A 100g jar yields approximately 8–10 servings. For a lighter sauce, use 1 tablespoon; for a deeply flavored curry, use 2 tablespoons. There’s no wrong answer — adjust to your taste and the number of people you’re feeding.
Can I use this paste as a marinade?
Absolutely. This paste is designed for double duty as both a cooking paste and a marinade. Rub 1–2 tablespoons directly onto chicken thighs, tofu cubes, paneer, or lamb. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes — or overnight for deeper flavor. The organic tomatoes and lime juice act as a natural tenderizing marinade, while the warm spices penetrate the protein beautifully. Grill or roast at high heat for a charred, aromatic tikka-style result. You can also finish the marinated protein in a coconut milk curry sauce for the full tikka masala experience.
Does Mekhala Tikka Masala Paste contain oil?
Yes — this paste contains organic sunflower oil, which helps carry the fat-soluble spice compounds and contributes to the paste’s smooth, rich texture. This is different from many other Mekhala pastes (such as the Thai Red Curry, Thai Green Curry, and Thai Basil Garlic pastes), which are completely oil-free. The Tikka Masala and Butter Masala pastes are the two in the range that include sunflower oil as part of their flavor base.
Is Mekhala Tikka Masala Paste gluten-free?
Yes. Mekhala Tikka Masala Paste is made with gluten-free gluten-free ingreidients in a gluten-free facility. All ingredients are free from wheat, barley, rye, and any gluten-derived additives. If you have celiac disease or a gluten intolerance, please exercise your own discretion.
What makes this different from ready-made tikka masala sauces?
Most ready-made tikka masala sauces come pre-diluted with water, cream, or fillers — you are paying for water weight and packaging, not concentrated flavor. Mekhala’s paste is stone-ground and concentrated: 100g yields 8–10 servings, and you control the sauce’s richness by choosing your own cooking liquid. The ingredients are all USDA Certified Organic, with no artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors, and no added sugar. You get full control over flavor depth, heat level, and richness — something no jarred sauce can offer.
How long does the paste keep after opening?
Once opened, refrigerate Mekhala Tikka Masala Paste and use within 3–4 weeks for optimal flavor and freshness. The reusable glass jar seals tightly to keep the paste fresh. For longer storage, freeze portions in a silicone ice cube tray — individual cubes keep well for up to 2 months with no significant loss of flavor or aroma. Defrost as needed for a fresh-tasting result every time.
Where is Mekhala Tikka Masala Paste made?
Mekhala pastes crafted in small batches at the brand’s own production facility in Chiang Mai, Thailand. All raw ingredients are sourced from local farmers using regenerative farming practices. The production team is entirely female-led and includes women from the Burmese Shan community. Made in a facility that is free from animal products, gluten, and dairy.
