What You Need To Know About Proposition 65
Understanding Proposition 65 Warnings
At Mekhala we are committed to transparency and safety in all our products. You may have noticed a Proposition 65 warning on some of our product labels and on websites selling our products in California. We understand this might raise concerns, so we want to provide clarity on what this means.
What is Proposition 65?
Proposition 65, officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a California law that aims to protect the state’s residents from chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. It requires businesses to inform Californians about exposures to such chemicals.
Why is the Warning on Our Products?
Plants are known to absorb chemicals and metals from the soil in naturally occurring and often trace amounts. This sometimes requires a Prop 65 warning in California. Out of an abundance of caution and in compliance with this regulation, we include these warnings to ensure we’re fully transparent with our customers and in legal compliance.
Our Commitment to Safety
Mekhala products are made only using 100% natural ingredients, in accordance with stringent manufacturing standards to prevent contamination, including that of heavy metals. We also meticulously source organic ingredients that meet the requisite certification standards laid out by the FDA, for your peace of mind.
I Don't Live in California, Why is There a Prop 65 label on My Product(s)?
Our distribution network is optimized for efficiency which helps minimize our environmental impact from transporting goods. So although other states do not require such a warning for naturally occurring levels of heavy metals, the way our operations are set up could mean that customers outside of California see the warning online or on product.
